The Mughals called themselves Gurkhanis—sons-in-law of the great Khans—honoring their Central Asian lineage. But behind the grandeur of emperors stood formidable women who shaped the course of the empire. From Babur’s grandmother Aisan Daulat Begum, who secured his throne when he was just 13, to queens, princesses, and poetesses who influenced politics, culture, and courtly life—this walk uncovers their powerful, often overlooked legacies. As we move through Mughal history, we’ll explore how these women lived, ruled, and why their stories—despite being central to the empire—were slowly erased from the chronicles of time.
