Night Full of Stars

Night Full of Stars

Sometimes I don’t even know how I get in certain places, but that’s the beauty of it all isn’t it? The randomness with which certain things happen.

I’m in Bulgaria in a small chalet in the middle of some mountains where there is no life at all but me and ten other people. Someone put some music on and everyone start to dance. As shy as I am I watch them dance while being the wallflower. Plus, I enjoy to just observe people and let the atmosphere get to me.

But I needed a moment, I had been traveling for a while now and I needed to reconcile with myself and take a breath of fresh air. I go outside and meet another boy from Spain who was doing the exact same thing: taking a moment to soak it all in.

We start some chatting as we walk around the chalet, then we decide to go for a little adventure and we start walking along a path in the woods. Everything is so dark that we need the torches on our phone to understand where we’re going.

Let’s just say it wasn’t a very responsible thing to do, as the first thing they told us when we got in that place was: look out for bears and just know that if you hurt yourself the first city is a two hours ride, and the ambulance would have to come by helicopter.

But I mean, when you’re young, traveling and have an hunger for adventure and for things to happen, you forget about all that and just go because, why not?

As we walk in the darkness I turn my head up and… I’m left speechless: the most beautiful sky I had ever seen in my whole life.

There was no city lights around for kilometers and not one cloud. I could see all of the stars, all of them, and they were so many. All of these little dots shining on us creating different shades in the sky, it looked like a painting or a NASA photograph. My jaw was to the floor. I couldn’t believe all that beauty.

That view filled me up, I felt like anything could have happened in that moment because at least I got THAT view. The sole thought that those stars are actually always there but the lights of the city hide them away, gave me feeling of reassurance, I felt, as cliché as it sounds, that there’s such a beauty in this world that makes it all have sense at the end of the day even when you don’t see it. It has always been there for you to just take a moment to yourself, take a walk maybe, and turn your head up. I felt I was rich to experience that.

I want to keep looking up and I don’t even have to say anything to this stranger walking with me, because as I made him notice the stars he just lays down on the ground and so do I.

So here we are, two people who just met, in a random place in East Europe, nothing around for kilometers, just laying on the cold ground to appreciate the sky, creating a deep connection that doesn’t really need words. That’s what I live for.

Some noises from far away of some wild animals coming, but that doesn’t really matter because we are feeling one with the world. Like in a postcard, like the finale of a beautiful tv series, a picture worth taking but my phone is dead and maybe it’s better, because I sure won’t forget that anyway.
